Temperature: Herbaceous perennial hardy in Zones 9 to10
Watering: Water when the soil becomes visually dry or the plant is showing wilt then thoroughly saturate until some water trickles from the bottom of the pot. Growing in a clay pot will help ensure a healthy root system.
Soil: Not picky about soil quality. No need to build up high organic matter with compost or fertilize regularly.
Comments: This plant is the prefect substitute for Eucalyptus Silver Drop when it comes to essential oils. This offers the same therapeutic benefits that help with respiratory health.
This Blue gum tree is one of the most popular of all the varieties. It's known for it's fast growing capabilities and essential oils. If planted in the ground and left alone it will grow very tall - it's one of the tallest trees in the world! If maintained outdoors, you can keep it cut back and train it to be more of a bushy shrub than a large tree. It does great in a container, so if you live above Zone 9 simply bring your potted Eucalyptus indoors when the temperatures are below 45 at night and place it near a sunny window.
This plant can be used for many things. As tree it will produce great shade in the summer months. Or the essential oils can be used as a antiseptic in cough drops. If you choose to grow it in a container you can grow indoors with required light and water to help deodorize the air!
