      Rosmarinus officinalis 'Arp'

One of our favorite traditional herb plants, Rosemary 'Arp' is a versatile, cold hardy perennial that will perform year round!

'Arp' Rosemary has an erect habit with gray-green, needle-like leaves. As this culinary herb matures, the stems develop into woody limbs, which are often used to skewer meats and vegetables to infuse the foods with flavor. Perhaps the hardiest of all varieties, it will reach 36" to 48" and widths of 18" to 24". 'Arp' makes a terrific informal hedge and will release its lemony pine-like scent when you brush past it. This tough variety of Rosemary has been known to withstand temperatures as low as in the teens.

Although full sun is ideal, rosemary will tolerate up to a half day of shade. The fragrance of this aromatic herb is unmistakable, and the herb is useful for flavoring lamb, pork, or beef.

Characteristics: Our most popular rosemary, 'Arp' is an upright grower with fragrant gray-green needle-like leaves. Very cold hardy.

Light: Rosemary loves tons and tons of sunshine.

Water: Rosemary can withstand some drought. Water when soil is dry to the touch, but never over-water. Rosemary does not like soggy over-watered environments.

Soil: If planted in the ground, make sure your soil is well-draining. I usually dig a deep hole, fill a bit with rocks or gravel, then plant rosemary on top to ensure adequate drainage. If you are container planting, be sure to choose a pot with drainage holes on the bottom. Clay pots are even better, to keep that soil dry.

Use: Rosemary is a wonderful culinary herb, popularly flavoring lamb, venison, poultry, and potato dishes.

Rosemary has long been a favorite in the herb garden!

Extras: Rosemary 'Arp' is the most cold-hardy variety available and should survive mild winters where other culinary herbs won't. Whether you plant it outside or pot it for indoor use, you'll want to keep this flavorful herb close at hand for your favorite recipes! Even the woody stems of this pine-scented herb are useful for kabobs and you can add fresh sprigs to the coals of your next barbecue to enhance your grilled foods with great taste! Rosemary oil is also a great natural insect repellent.
