Verbascum chaxii
Light: Full Sun
Temperature: Herbaceous perennial hardy in Zones 5 to 8
Watering: Drought tolerant doing a deep watering once a week near the base of the plant is a great way to keep this plant happy!
Soil: Well-drained soil is best but then again this plant is not picky and can grow in poor soil. Plants planted in fertile soil can grow taller and need assistance with staking.
Comments: This easy to grow perennial is one you plant and just enjoy. To help promote continuous blooms make sure to remove spent flower spikes (dead head). This will also help with self-seeding.
This plant is also know as Nettle-Leaved Mullein and the botanical name Verbascum chaxii. This is one tough cookie- that is drought tolerant and is known to be a long lived herbaceous perennial. This plant does flower in the second year it does need to experience what we called in the business "Vernalization"...which means to be subjected to cooler temperatures to produce flower the following year.
This plant, like our other Mullein plant, has fuzzy leaves and long, spiky stems that display countless beautiful flowers. The main difference is the bloom color - this plant will produce white flowers with a purple center. It's also worth noting that this plant does not have the same medicinal values as the other Mullein plant.
