Remember, this is NOT the medicinal St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum). This considered an ornamental plant!
This plant makes an excellent ground cover. Perfect for most kinds of soil, this easy-to-grow plant is covered in rose-like bright yellow flowers all summer. It will tolerate shade, but flowers prolifically when given more sun.
A great plant for landscaping projects, Hypericum calycinum practically grows itself. Thriving under substandard conditions, this plant prefers sunny, dry places, poor soil and is disease resistant. It is drought tolerant and deer resistant! Plus it makes a great 'weed proof' patch wherever it grows and is great for stabilizing a hillside or bank since its root system is heralded as a great solution to erosion. Hypericum calycinum grows densely, but is not considered invasive.
It does spread rapidly on underground stems, and blooms nicely on new growth each spring. We recommend cutting it back in the late winter for more blooms in the spring. It's a good idea to divide the plant every 2-3 years as well.
