Joe Pye Weed, also known as Gravelroot, is definitely not a weed, but a fabulous wildflower and medicinal herb, that is native to the Eastern United States. This herb plant has very large terminal, domed rose-pink to purplish flower heads that butterflies, bees and other pollinators will go crazy for! Also known as the 'Queen of the Meadow', Joe Pye Weed got its unusual name from a Native American herbal healer that would use this beautiful plant to cure fevers, kidney problems and even typhus.
Though the whole plant can be used for medicinal purposes, Joe Pye Weed's roots have the most value. Its flowering heads have a vanilla scented quality while, when crushed, its leaves produce a smell closer to apples. This fragrant ornamental beauty grows tall, needs little care, and looks great alongside Hyssop or Lavender.
Perfect for butterfly gardeners, Joy Pye Weed plants are a magnet for helpful garden pollinators!
